The Acting Chief Executive will be required to support Butterwick Hospice Care improve its CQC rating as a priority, taking the organisation forward during the absence of the current Chief Executive.
The Acting Chief Executive will be accountable for all services and subsidiary businesses of Butterwick Hospice Care and will be the individual responsible for ensuring that the Hospice meets its statutory obligations whilst working effectively with key individuals and partner organisations.
The Acting Chief Executive will provide high level strategic leadership and management to the whole organisation, with an emphasis on quality standards of safe patient care and efficient/effective use of resources. The Acting Chief Executive is accountable for all services provided by the Hospice and is the individual responsible for ensuring that the Hospice meets it statutory and service obligations whilst working effectively with key individuals and partner organisations.
Specifically, the Chief Executive will:
Key Responsibilities
To provide leadership to enable the Hospice to achieve its strategic goals, increase CQC ratings and deliver objectives as agreed with the Board of Trustees.
To take ultimate responsibility for governance and standards of care, ensuring that the appropriate assurance and management processes are in place to fully comply with all legal regulations and standards.
To ensure that sound financial management and corporate governance systems/processes are in place to enable al objectives are met.
To support the appropriate senior leaders to ensure the development and implementation of strategies, plans, and performance management for all services and support functions including:
To develop and maintain positive and collaborative partnership arrangements with the local NHS services, local authorities, MP’s, MEP’s, Voluntary Sector, local Hospices, universities and other relevant organisations.
To ensure, that Butterwick Hospice Care complies with all necessary external regulatory bodies for example CQC, Charities Commission, Information Officer, HMRC and the Health & Safety Executive.
To build a positive external image/reputation for the Hospice and create opportunities to enhance the profile of the Hospice and its services.
To support the Chair and the Board of Trustees to fulfil their duties and responsibilities for the proper governance of the Hospice, ensuring that the Board receives appropriate information and timely advice on all relevant matters.
To lead and manage six direct line reports ensuring their professional performance and development needs are addressed and that a culture of a learning organisation delivering high quality services permeates throughout Butterwick Hospice Care.
To negotiate and agree service contracts and service level agreements (SLA) with local NHS commissioners/organisations and other organisations. Ensure all contracts entered into by Butterwick Hospice Care and subsidiaries are in line with current policies and procedures.
To review and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the all services, to ensure they remain within budget constraints, meet agreed plans, contracts and SLA’s.
Optimise all resources and produce innovative ideas, project analysis and business case proposals in the best interests of the future of Butterwick Hospice Care
To contribute to the development of policies affecting the Hospice’s services through active involvement in national, regional and local forums/initiatives/collaborative programmes.
Ensure robust risk management systems are in place throughout Butterwick Hospice Care.
Act as an Ambassador and Senior Spokesperson for Butterwick Hospice Care, attend activities and events as required, building appropriate relationships for the positive benefit of the whole organisation
Promote and maintain positive/productive relationships with the media as appropriate.
To encourage and facilitate educational developments and participation in learning to improve standards of patient care/Hospice services.
To ensure clinical staff have arrangements in place for revalidation and ongoing continuous professional development.
To take on any other responsibilities or tasks that are within the employee’s skills/abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
To ensure financial stability of Butterwick Hospice Care, taking steps at all times to balance budgets and deliver reserves funds as per current policies.

All staff will undergo an annual performance assessment and agree a personal development plan which will ensure that the objectives of the employee, department and organisation are achieved
All staff are personally accountable for improving and maintaining own knowledge and competence.
All staff will be aware of and support the working practices of any volunteers assisting with daily workload
Standards of Business Conduct
The post holder will be required to comply with the Company’s Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions and, at all times, deal honestly with Butterwick Hospice Care, with colleagues and all those who have dealing with the Company including clients, patients, service users and other suppliers and stakeholders.
To be aware of all policies and procedures relevant to the role, both existing and as they are reviewed.
