Chief Executive

Full Time

Website Quality Assurance Agency

This is an exciting time to lead an organisation with an important role in the UK’s world-class higher education sector.

Higher education is changing across the UK, and QAA continues to evolve to meet its needs. We are the UK’s independent quality body for higher education with a mission to safeguard and improve the quality of UK higher education, wherever it is delivered in the world. QAA works as the designated quality body for higher education in England, and our new membership scheme was launched in August 2019. Distinctive partnership arrangements apply in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We’re changing the way we work and introducing new services to benefit universities and colleges throughout the UK and support their operation globally.

We’re looking for a talented and enthusiastic Chief Executive, who shares our commitment to improving and promoting the UK’s global reputation for delivering a quality higher education experience for all students. The post holder is ultimately responsible for all management decisions and for implementing the Agency’s long- and short-term plans.

This is a leadership role of unusual breadth; the appointee will be responsible for leading the development and execution of QAA’s long-term strategy in addition to operational aspects. Our underlying values revolve around service to providers, students, and other beneficiaries of UK higher education. Commercially focused activities are undertaken in order to reinforce the financial sustainability of the organisation.

We are looking for an individual with extensive experience of a leadership role in a complex organisation, who can confidently and effectively interact at a senior level with government, higher education or other comparable institutions, and the media.

It’s important that the appointee has a firm understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing UK and international higher education as well as the general principles of quality assurance, and have the ability to define, communicate and lead a clear vision.

Please let us know about the flexibility you need in your application. QAA values equality and diversity and recognises the benefits this brings. We welcome applications from all qualified people and are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives and skills.

Flexible working offered, with regular travel to Head Office located in Gloucester.
