About ACRO
ACRO Criminal Records Office is hosted by Hampshire Constabulary but operates across the UK as a whole. We are global leaders in the provision of criminal records and biometric information in the fight against crime and offending. We work closely with partners in the UK and abroad including the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC), the National Crime Agency (NCA), the Home Office, Interpol, and other Government Departments, as well as agencies overseas.
ACRO is a values led organisation with inclusion, public service, integrity, transparency and impartiality at the centre of everything we do. We invest in our people so that they can thrive and be bold in what they do, realise their potential and enjoy coming into work.
About The Role
ACRO is a world leader in managing criminal records and biometric information, delivering a range of services that provide operational benefits to law enforcement and public protection teams, helping bring offenders to justice, and meet the legitimate information access and management needs of the public. As a CEO for ACRO you will come under the direction and control of the Chief Constable of Hampshire Constabulary, Olivia Pinkney, and report to a Governance Board, chaired by the NPCC chair, Chief Constable Martin Hewitt.
Responsible for a budget of more than £14 million p.a., a workforce of 350+, and managing a total revenue of £16 million p.a., you’ll shape the way we provide criminal record information services in this influential position in parallel with looking for opportunity to generate income. Your remit will span the international exchange of some 215,000 criminal records, the issue of 130,000 Police Certificates, and the responsibility for tracking hundreds of sex offenders each year, among other services designed to tackle crime and protect those who need our help. This will be the challenge of your career.
We’ll look to you to set a strategy that ensures ACRO achieves its purpose of ‘Safer communities in the UK and across the world’ in line with the National Police Chiefs’ Council’s Policing Vision 2025. Doing so requires your ability to build effective partnerships with senior stakeholder agencies, both within the UK and overseas.
An experienced professional with the highest level of integrity, you’ll sustain a national and international profile as you scope improvements to policies and practices in a multiagency arena, whilst proactively managing risk. You will liaise with senior police officers and staff as well as officials from UK and International Law Enforcement agencies.
Besides being the Executive Officer at ACRO, the post holder will have additional NPCC responsibilities including within the International Crime Portfolio.
Reporting to the ACRO Governance Board on strategic planning, risk mitigation and operational delivery, you’ll bring a flair for strategic and operational leadership plus an understanding of the challenges facing the police service, and an awareness of the political backdrop against which ACRO provides its services. An excellent understanding of the government, policing, and commercial acumen is a must, with a passion to promote ACRO, raise our profile with stakeholders, whilst continually seeking opportunities to generate new work streams.
