Addressing the climate emergency. Reducing inequality. Accelerating digital transformation. Increasing engagement with local people. These are just some of the challenges you can rise to when you become Deputy Chief Executive of Waltham Forest Council.
As the second most senior figure in the council, you’ll help shape the future of this large and diverse local authority, ensuring we provide communities with the high-quality, easy-to-use services they need. Above all, it’s about listening to our residents on big and small issues, and constantly driving improvements across everything we do.
Key areas you’ll oversee include strategy, communications, customer experience, transformation and insight. You’ll have responsibility for policy direction as well as operational management and financial control. You’ll also regularly deputise for the Chief Executive and provide Board members with ongoing advice and support.
Given the high profile and huge influence of this role, we’re looking for someone who’s already proven themselves at senior-management level. Whether you’re leading multi-disciplinary teams, delivering service improvements or driving organisational change, you’ll know what it takes to make things happen and put innovative solutions into practice.
There will be many complex political relationships for you to manage, so excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills are critical. You also need to be highly resilient, especially while working under pressure and at pace.
